CGN collecting missions
CGN has a long history of organising collecting missions, often in collaboration with other genebanks, research institutes and local partners. During these missions, wild populations and landraces from around the world are collected, documented and conserved at CGN or at collaborating genebanks.
By collecting new material, we aim to safeguard valuable and often vulnerable genetic diversity. This diversity is increasingly threatened by changes in climate, land use and agricultural practices. Conserving it ensures that the material remains available for future research, breeding and education.
This page provides an overview of CGN’s collecting missions, including information about what was collected, where the mission took place and which organisations and people were involved. New missions are conducted several times a year. We aim to add every mission to this overview, although publication may follow several months after the fieldwork.
